UCCSC 2001, July 8-10

UCLA was proud to host the 2001 University of California Computing Services Conference in July. More than 300 people attended the two-and-a-half-day event that featured 55 presentations on topics such as wireless, web commerce, hands-free computing, videostreaming, and a whole lot of cool, new applications. With four tracks of presentations, nine campus reports, virtual tours of the CLICC (College Library Instructional Computing Commons), a special media classroom, and a site at Berkeley, and real tours of UCLA's Visualization Portal and Adaptive Technology Lab, this year's conference had something for everyone.

The UCCSC conference, which was first held with less than 100 people almost 20 years ago, brings together IT professionals from all of the UC campuses to exchange information and anecdotes about our common environments and needs.

Our theme this year - Universal Access: Anytime, Anywhere - provided plenty of opportunity to talk about the topics that are on the minds of the UC Computing Support Coordinators, and from the Sunday Night Barbecue through the breaks, tours, and evening at the Hammer Museum, participants also had plenty of opportunity to meet their counterparts, swap experiences, and talk about the issues and challenges they'll face in the coming years as information technology continues to evolve.

Next year's conference will be held at UC Berkeley, and if you're interested in attending, or just keeping in touch with your UC colleagues, you'll want to sign onto the official UCCSC list serve - UCCSC@UCI.EDU - which is kept at UC Irvine. To sign on to the list, please send a mail message to listserv@uci.edu containing the following (single) line: subscribe uccsc Your Name

Thanks to all who joined us this year, and we hope to see you next year at Berkeley.
